Newberry's Jeremy Smith Named Men's Tennis Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, SC -- Newberry College senior Jeremy Smith, of Durbin, South Africa, has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 19.

Smith helped Newberry to three league wins last week, playing No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, winning all six of his matches.

Smith won two points in each of Newberry’s 5-4 wins on the week, which came against Catawba and Lincoln Memorial. Newberry also posted a 9-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne during the week.

At No. 1 doubles, he teamed with Felipe Sobrinho to complete a perfect 8-0 mark in conference matches. He won his three singles matches in straight sets and finished the season with an 8-7 mark, including a 6-2 record against the SAC.

The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the league’s Sports Information Directors.
