ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Kevin Harrison was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Wingate's Elliot Zirwas was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested Feb. 5-11, the League office announced today.
Harrison, a sophomore from Mount Laurel, N.J., moved up to the No. 1 ranking in the South Atlantic Conference in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.88 at the GVSU Big Meet last week. Additionally, Harrison's time was a personal-best and was the first time in Queens' history that a runner has broken the 49-second barrier in the 400.
Zirwas, a sophomore from Fort Pierce, Fla., set a new Wingate record and placed second in the weight throw with his toss of 17.30 meters at the JDL Team Challenge last week. He also competed in the shot put at the VMI Winter Relays, where he placed ninth with a throw of 14.64 meters.
