ROCK HILL, S.C. - With each SAC fall sport regular season complete, Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate are tied atop the 2011-12 Echols Athletic Excellence Award standings - a cumulative measure of performance in each of the league's sponsored sports.
The Echols Athletic Excellence Award standings are calculated based on each schools' regular season SAC finish in men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, baseball and softball, and the Food Lion SAC Championship results in men's and women's cross country and men's and women's golf.
L-R and Wingate currently lead the Award's standings with 45.5 points apiece. The Bears' total is strengthened by their women's soccer championship, a split of the football conference title and a second-place finish in women's cross country, while the Bulldogs' number is supported by their volleyball championship and No. 2 finish in the women's soccer standings.
Mars Hill, which won the men's cross country title and split the football championship with L-R, is third in the standings with 41 points, followed by women's cross country and men's soccer champion Anderson, which has 38 points.
Lincoln Memorial is currently No. 5 in the Echols Athletic Excellence Award race with 30.5 points, followed by Tusculum with 29.5 and Carson-Newman at 27.5.
