L-R’s Vieitez, Wingate’s Little Named SAC Baseball Players of the Week
The SAC on Tuesday named Lenoir-Rhyne outfielder Ivan Vieitez the conference’s baseball Player of the Week and Wingate starter Olen Little its Pitcher of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The SAC on Tuesday named Lenoir-Rhyne outfielder Ivan Vieitez the conference's baseball Player of the Week and Wingate starter Olen Little its Pitcher of the Week.
SAC Baseball Player of the Week | Ivan Vieitez, Lenoir-Rhyne
Vieitez finished last week with a .611 batting average, including six hits in nine at-bats in Lenoir-Rhyne's weekend series victory over Carson-Newman.
Vieitez had multiple hits in all but one of the Bears' games last week, including three-hit days against Montreat on Wednesday and in game one of Saturday's double-header with Carson-Newman. He hit six doubles, scored five runs and drew three walks over the five games, finishing with a .682 on-base percentage and a .944 slugging percentage.
Additionally, Vieitez allowed no earned runs in 8.2 innings pitched in game one against Carson-Newman on Saturday to earn the victory. He currently ranks second in the SAC with a .404 batting average.
SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Olen Little, Wingate
Little lowered his SAC-leading ERA to 0.88 by tossing a complete-game one-hitter on Friday at Newberry. Wingate won the game, 3-0.
Little struck out three and walked none in the performance, and at one stretch retired 14-straight Newberry hitters.
The right-hander is also tied for the conference lead with seven wins, and his 36 strikeouts are tied for 11th in the league.
