Catawba’s Hawks, Wingate’s Currie Claim SAC Baseball Weekly Honors
Catawba outfielder Keaton Hawks and Wingate starting pitcher Ben Currie have been named the SAC Baseball Players of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Catawba outfielder Keaton Hawks and Wingate starting pitcher Ben Currie have been named the SAC Baseball Players of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Hawks hit .478 with a .500 on-base percentage last week, leading Catawba to a 5-1 record, including a weekend SAC sweep of Mars Hill.
Hawks had multiple hits in each contest last week, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance on Friday in game one of the Mars Hill series. He doubled twice and recorded four RBI on Wednesday at UNC Pembroke, and totaled two doubles, a home run and six RBI in the MHU series.
The senior's 50 hits this season currently rank third in the SAC.
SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Ben Currie, Wingate
Currie threw a seven-inning complete-game shutout on Saturday against UNC Pembroke, allowing just two hits – both singles - while striking out four and walking none. UNCP's offense entered the weekend leading the nation in hits and doubles.
Currie needed just 80 pitches to register the complete-game, which was his fourth-straight. He is tied for third in the SAC with seven wins, ranks fourth with 59 strikeouts and fifth with a 2.30 ERA.
