The South Atlantic Conference Announces Baseball Players of the Week, Feb. 16

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Coker's Miguel Frias was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Vince Apicella from Carson-Newman was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 8-14, the League announced today.

Frias, a senior from Longwood, Fla., batted .545 with six hits, 12 RBI and a 1.273 slugging percentage to lead the Cobras to a 4-0 record last week.  Against Paine on Feb. 9, Frias notched a double, a home run and four RBI in a 22-6 win.  He followed that effort with one hit, a homer and four RBI in Coker's 15-2 win over St. Augustine's on Feb. 10.  He finished his week with a double and three RBI in a win over Saint Rose on Feb. 13.  He posted a hit and an RBI in all four games he played in to notch an on-base percentage of .722.  Frias also chipped in seven runs-scored.  The honor is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.

Apicella, a senior from Dillsburg, Pa., recorded 10 strikeouts in a complete game shutout win over Virginia-Wise on Feb. 14.  He scattered just three hits in his eight innings of work and allowed only three walks.  The award is his first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
