MHC’s Randolph Earns Weekly Offensive Distinction, TC’s Smith Captures Defensive and Special Teams Honors
October 17, 2011
ROCK HILL, S.C. - A record-breaking rushing
performance from Mars Hill's Jonas Randolph earned him Offensive
Player of the Week honors, while Tusculum's Nick Smith received
both Defensive and Special Teams distinctions, the league office
announced on Monday.

Randolph, the nation's leading rusher, finished with 331 yards
on 46 carries in Mars Hill's 31-28 overtime victory at Catawba
Saturday. Both of those numbers set new Mars Hill single game
records. The 331 yards were the most in Division II this season,
and the third-highest total in SAC history.
Randolph's performance helped MHC remain undefeated in the SAC
and alone in the top spot of the league's standings. Randolph has
now won the SAC Offensive Player of the Week four times this
season.
On defense, Smith recovered two fumbles -- one of which he
forced -- and tallied four tackles in Tusculum's 26-25 win against
Lenoir-Rhyne. His second fumble recovery turned out to be the
game's key play, as it ended a potential game-winning drive for L-R
with less than three minutes to play.
He was just as impactful on special teams, blocking a total of
three L-R kicks. Smith blocked two extra points and a 32-yard
field goal attempt at the end of the first half as the Pioneers
snapped a five-game losing streak and handed L-R its first SAC loss
of the season.
Smith's second blocked PAT attempt was returned for a
two-point defensive score -- TC's first since 2004.
