The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week, Oct. 20
o. 18 Carson-Newman running back Andy Hibbett was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne defensive back Marcus Kincaid was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Bears’ place kicker Justin Powell picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games played the seventh week of the season. No. 18 Carson-Newman running back Andy Hibbett was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne defensive back Marcus Kincaid was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Bears' place kicker Justin Powell picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Hibbett, a senior from Corryton, Tenn., rushed for a career-best 221 yards and three scores to lead the Eagles to a 55-35 win at Tusculum on Oct. 18. His 30 carries and 221 yards marked the most for an Eagle since the 2012 season. He averaged 7.4 yards per rush and posted a long run of 41 yards. The game marked Hibbett's fifth consecutive 100-yard game which ties him for tops in the Carson-Newman record book. The honor is his second Offensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Kincaid, a sophomore from Morganton, N.C., turned in 13 tackles and two tackles for loss to lead the Bears to a 23-10 win at Newberry on Oct. 18. Kincaid recorded 12 solo stops and chipped in a pass break-up. His performance helped the Lenoir-Rhyne defense limit the Wolves to just 217 yards of total offense. The award is his first Defensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Powell, a senior from Connelly Springs, N.C., went three-for-three on field goal attempts and chipped in two extra points in Lenoir-Rhyne's win over Newberry. He highlighted his day with a 47 yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give the Bears a seven-point advantage heading into halftime. He finished the contest with 11 points for the Bears. The honor is his first Special Teams Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Kelvin Jeter (Brevard), Carlos Tarrats (Catawba), Miles Freeman (Lenoir-Rhyne), Jamel Harbison (Mars Hill) and Kyle Johnson (Wingate).
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: William Alderman (Carson-Newman), Mark McDaniel (Catawba), Colby Price (Mars Hill), Lance Richardson (Newberry) and Nick Napolitano (Wingate).
Also nominated for Special Teams Player of the Week: Caleb Berry (Catawba), Kyle Clark (Newberry), Justin Houston (Tusculum) and Jalen Gavin (Wingate).
