ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Four South Atlantic Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Division II Men's Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
District 3, comprised of the Peach Belt, Conference Carolinas, and the South Atlantic Conference, had six spots to fill, four of which were claimed by the SAC.
Carson-Newman's senior guard Mason Bates has a 3.67 grade-point average in business administration. Anderson's senior guard Andrew Boynton has a stellar 3.93 GPA in business/financial economics, while Newberry's junior guard Luke Gibson has a near perfect 3.98 GPA in accounting. Tusculum's junior forward Caleb Hodnett is earning a 3.73 GPA in biology.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
