The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2023 Men's Golf All-Conference Teams, Anderson Sweeps Major Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Reece Coleman was voted the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golfer of the Year, while fellow Trojan Alejandro de Castro was named the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Anderson's Danny Neal was named the Coach of the Year as voted on by the men's golf head coaches, the SAC office announced today.
Coleman, a senior from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is currently ranked No. 3 nationally in Division II with a 70.33 stroke average. He won the Georgia Southwestern Hurricane Invitational and finished in the top-three in six of the eight tournaments he appeared in this season. He shot a season-low 65 at the Cougar Invitational and carded two rounds of 67 and two rounds of 68.
De Castro, a freshman from Saint Esteve Sesrovires, Spain, is currently ranked No. 56 nationally in Division II with a 72.42 stroke average. He did not finish outside of the top-30 in any tournaments this year with two top-10 finishes and three top-20 finishes. De Castro carded a season-low round of 67 at the Camden Intercollegiate and had three other rounds under-par this season.
Neal earns his first-ever SAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year honor after leading the Trojans to a No. 1 national ranking. Under Neal's leadership, the Trojans have won six of the eight events they have played in this season, posting a 71.62 adjusted scoring average as a team. They are currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Southeast Region.
Coleman also earned first team All-SAC honors for his performance this season and he is joined on the first team by Carson-Newman's Hayden Hunneke, Anderson's Calahan Keever, Limestone's Kristoffer Larsson, and Carson-Newman's Jake Mynatt.
The 2023 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship will run from Sunday, April 16 through Tuesday, April 18, at the Lake Hickory Country Club's Catawba Springs Course in Hickory, N.C. Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. all three days with 18-holes being played each day. Live results for all three rounds can be found online at www.thesac.com.
