ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Following the completion of the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships the major awards for the meet were announced. The results are as follows.
Winning the 2019 SAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year Award was Queens' Stefan Jungmichel. He placed first in the men's 60-meter hurdles, was second in the heptathlon and was sixth and seventh, respectively, in the men's high jump and pole vault.
Taking home the 2019 SAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet Award was Lenoir-Rhyne's P.J. Lotharp. He took home first place honors in all three of the events he competed in, winning the men's 60-meter dash, the men's 200-meter dash and the men's 4x400-meter relay.
The 2019 SAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet went to Carson-Newman's Jahvad McDermott. He went to the medal podium in two of his three events, narrowly missing on the third. McDermott placed first in the men's triple jump, was third in the men's high jump and was fourth in the men's long jump.
For the second year in a row, Queens' head coach Jim Vahrenkamp was named SAC Indoor Coach of the Year. Vahrenkamp led the Royals to their second consecutive indoor championship, scoring 184 points as a team.
The 2019 SAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award is still to be determined. Following the completion of the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship, the head coaches will vote on the top track and field performer throughout the entire 2019 season.
