ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Michael Carson was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Cole Henderson was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested March 19-25, the League office announced today.
Carson, a sophomore from Detroit, Mich., had a busy weekend at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational. He placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.16. He placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.75 and he ran the anchor leg of the 4x100 meter relay that posted a time of 42.30 and was the top Division II team in the event.
Henderson, a junior from Greer, S.C. took home two top-10 finishes at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in hammer throw and discus. He placed seventh in the hammer throw and set a new Bear's record with a toss 155 feet and 11 inches. Henderson also placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 46 feet and one inch.
The award is Carson's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Henderson's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
