The South Atlantic Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week, Feb. 23
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Jordin Phillips was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Carley Tysinger of Catawba was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 15-21, the League announced today.
Phillips, a senior from Hampstead, N.C., notched nine hits, eight RBI and a .429 average at the plate to lead the Bears to a 5-1 record last week. She posted three multiple-hit games and notched a long ball in three contests as well. Phillips drove in multiple RBI in a pair of contests, including four RBI in a 9-1 win over Limestone on Feb. 17. She finished the six-game span with two doubles, two stolen bases, seven runs-scored and a slugging percentage of .952. The award is her first Player of the Week nod this season.
Tysinger, a senior from Lexington, N.C., struck out 37 batters in 28 innings-pitched to pick up complete-game wins in all four of her starts last week. She got her week started with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout win over Belmont Abbey on Feb. 17. Three days later vs. Augusta, Tysinger posted her second complete-game shutout of the week as she finished the contest with 10 strikeouts. Later in the day against No. 9 Georgia College, Tysinger struck out 10 hitters in her seven inning win. She closed her week out with seven strikeouts in the shutout win over Columbus State. In her outing vs. Columbus State, Tysinger took a perfect game into the seventh inning and picked up her 1,000th career strikeout as she currently has 1,002 for her career. The honor is her second Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
