The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played in the seventh weekend of the 2021 season. Carson-Newman's Shannon Smith earns the Player honor while Lenoir-Rhyne's Lauren Rakes earns the Pitcher honor.

A sophomore catcher Smith, helped lead the Eagles to a sweep over Limestone this past weekend. Overall, the Channahon, Ill., native averaged a .556 batting average, going 5-for-9 from the plate with a .889 slugging percentage, nine RBI's, five runs scored and one homerun. This is Smith's first Player of the Week honor of the season.

Rakes, a sophomore pitcher, went 2-0 for the bears with wins over Anderson and Queens this past week. Overall, she went 16 innings with 12 hits and two walks, while striking out 23. This is Rakes' first Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
