The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played in the seventh weekend of the 2021 season. UVA-Wise's Jesse French took the offensive honor and Newberry's Madalyn Messersmith took the defensive honor.

French, a senior attacker, helped the Cavaliers to a 2-0 conference record this past weekend. She totaled seven points on four goals, while adding three assists and three ground balls and one caused turnover in their 16-6 win over Lincoln Memorial. French went on to garner eight points on three goals and five assists in an 18-6 win over Catawba. Overall, the Dumfries, Va., native pulled together 15 points with seven goals while also compiling three ground balls, one caused turnover and eight assists. This is French's first Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.

A Sophomore defender Messersmith, helped the Wolves secure a thrilling 15-13 win over Tusculum this past weekend. The Stevensville, Md., scored two points on two goals while also adding eight ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls. This is Messersmith's first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
