ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during Sept. 4 through Sept. 9. Queens's Lulu Phan garnered the Offensive Player of the Week award, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Loren Sterling was named Defensive Player of the Week.
A sophomore forward from Guildford, England, Phan anchored the Royals to two road wins, including a historic 2-1 win over No. 24 Tampa. This is the Royal's first time defeating a top-25 team since joining the SAC in 2013. Phan scored a goal in each of Queens's victories last week and has scored three goals in each of the last three matches. This is Phan's first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Sterling, a native of Colfax, N.C., helped the Bears to a 1-0-1 week. The senior goalkeeper shut out Saint Leo 1-0, making three saves in the win. She then led Lenoir-Rhyne to a 1-1 draw against No. 24 Tampa, making six saves in 110 minutes of action. She finished the week with a .900 save percentage and 0.45 goals against average. This is Sterling's first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
