The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced it's AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during the fourth week of the season. Carson-Newman defender Lira Mathes was named the offensive player of the week, while Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Grayson Cameron was named defensive player of the week.
Mathes, a senior from Knoxville, Tenn., found the back of the net twice in a span of four minutes and six seconds in the first half of the Eagles' 6-0 win over Mars Hill last week. Her two goals gave her four points for the match. She also anchored the defense that held the Lions scoreless for 90 minutes.
Cameron, a junior from Hickory, N.C., made eight saves and surrendered just one goal in 110 minutes of action between the goal posts, as she helped lead the Bears to a 1-1 draw with Wingate last week. She finished the match with a 0.82 goals against average and made two game-saving stops in the final minutes of action.
