Three Meet Records Broken on Day Two of SAC Swimming Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three meet records were broken on day two of the South Atlantic Conference Swimming Championship as the Wingate Bulldogs lead both the men's and women's standings.
Day two saw very competitive races totaling 26 NCAA DII B Cut times.
The top five swimmers in the Women's 1,000 Yard Freestyle swam DII B Cut times, with Catawba's Fiona Byrne taking first place with a 10:09. Wingate's Livia Kingsland finished second with a 10:15.18, followed by Catawba's Danielle Meinema at 10:16.03. Ella Gutenwik from Catawba (10.23.28) and Grace Wilson from Wingate (10.23.79) rounded out the national qualifiers.
The top six finishers of the men's 1,000 Yard Freestyle finished under the DII B-Cut qualifying time led by Wingate's Fernando Dehaudt's meet record of 9:03.76. Catawba's Nazar Herashchenko touched second at 9:04.10, followed by Wingate's Miguel Marcos (9:13.38) and Catawba's Jurek Larys (9:13.88). Wingate's Damir Ipkaev (9:17.92) and Mars Hill's Andres Bodington (9:26.21) also finished under the D2B Cut time.
The top three finishers in the women's 200 Yard IM eclipsed the DII B-Cut time with Wingate's Natalia Dwojak taking first (2:02.25), followed by Carson-Newman's Megan Corcoran (2:03.32) and Catawba's Sydney McKenzie (2:05.20).
The men's 200 Yard IM saw Carson-Newman's Asger Hartvig capture first with a 1:50.01, followed by Catawba's Joao Oliveira at 1:50.24. Both of those times are fast enough for a D2B-Cut. Wingate's Andreas Carrascal took third (1:50.38).
The women's 50 Yard Freestyle saw six D2B Cut times led by Catawba's Marit Reckmann (22.89). Catawba's Eniko Onofer (23.30) finished second followed by Wingate's Natalia Dwojak (23.48), and Lucie Andrews (23.50). Emory & Henry's Hope Christensen (23.67) and Carson-Newman's Emma Bowling (23.70) completed the top six.
Catawba's Maks Minichowski touched first in the men's 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 20.01. Wingate's Yassine Sebbata (20.13) Carson-Newman's Arthur Gluzman (20.15), and Catawba's Ryan Case (20.36) rounded out the top four finishers under the D2B cut time.
In the women's 200 Medley Relay Catawba's team of Eniko Onofer, Sydney McKenzie, Sydney Peterson, and Marit Reckmann, captured first with a time of 1:42.52. Wingate's Vera Karlsson, Natalia Dwojak, Valentina Zapata Ceballos, and Nina Azirovic took second (1:42.92), and Carson-Newman's Sarah Covington, Breanna Belcher, Martina Ivanova, and Olivia Kerr Muir finished third (1:43.67)
Wingate swam a meet record in the men's 200 Yard Medley Relay as Ney Chagas Filho, Andres Martijena, Mike Topchanalis, and Yassine Sebbata touched in 1:27.66. Carson-Newman's Will Humphreys, Asger Hartvig, Christian Balint, and Tyler Schehr took second (1:28.85) while Lenoir-Rhyne's Christopher Forsey, Greg Kisshauer, Matthew Stein, and Renato Herran finished third (1:32.56)
