The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2019 Women's Tennis Annual Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSac.com) Tusculum's Annie McCullough was voted the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while Carson-Newman's Ana Carla Resende was voted the Conference's Freshman of the Year.  In addition, Tusculum's head coach Adam Jackson was named the Coach of the Year, the SAC office announced today. 

McCullough, a junior from Belfast, Northern Ireland, is currently ranked No. 46 in the nation in the latest ITA/Oracle Singles ranking. She went 23-4 during the regular season, including going a perfect 9-0 in SAC matches. In doubles play, McCullough and sister Caitlin are 22-3 overall, posting a 9-0 record in conference. They are currently ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA/Oracle Doubles ranking.

Resende, a freshman from Minas Gerais, Brazil, burst onto the scene for the Eagles this season starting at the No. 1 singles position, posting a 12-3 overall record and a 6-2 record in SAC action. She helped lead Carson-Newman to a No. 5 seed in the SAC Women's Tennis Championship, finishing the regular season with a record of 9-9 overall and 5-5 in conference.

Jackson guided the Pioneers to their first South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship since 2010 with a 10-0 record in SAC play.  Overall, the Pioneers finished the 2019 campaign with a 16-2 record.  Tusculum is currently ranked No. 16 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II Women's Tennis National Ranking.

Joining McCullough and Resende on the All-SAC first team singles squad were Michela Verpelli of Wingate, Yana Fleyer from Queens, Caitlin McCullough from Tusculum, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Gemma Southwick.

The All-SAC first team doubles honorees were the McCullough sisters from Tusculum, Fleyer and Sasha Davidzenka from Queens and Wingate's Verpelli and Alisa Rudenko.
