Newberry's Castaneda Named South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Tennis Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Zulay Castaneda has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played during the first week of the 2022 season, the Conference announced today.

Castaneda, a senior from Panama City, Panama led her team to winning the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational over the weekend without suffering a single loss in singles or doubles throughout the tournament.

This week, Castaneda picked up two 6-3 wins at No. 3 doubles with partner Rosie Harfield versus Francis Marion and Lenoir-Rhyne, and a 7-5 win against Lander.  Castaneda was also victorious at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 against Erskrine ; 6-4, 6-1 versus Francis Marion and then winning 6-4, 6-1 against Lander. 

This is Castaneda's first Player of the Week selection this season.
