The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during Sept. 17 through Sept. 24. Carson-Newman's Magda Mosengo garnered the Offensive Player of the Week award, while Wingate's Chandler Hendrix was named Defensive Player of the Week.
A senior forward, Mosengo led the Eagle offense to two conference victories during the week, a 5-2 road win at Lincoln Memorial and a home 7-0 shutout of Coker. With a spread of five goals in the contests, including a hat trick versus Coker, Mosengo also collected an assist, for a total of 11 points in four days. The London, England native shot an impressive .727 when targeting the goal. This is Mosengo's first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Hendrix, a native of Sharpsburg, Ga., played all 90 minutes in the 2-0 shutout of Tusculum, moving the Bulldogs to 2-0 in conference play. In the previous two games, the Pioneers had six goals, but, led by the freshman defender, Wingate held the visitors to just seven shots and only two on goal. They did not allow a shot on target until the 82nd minute. This is Hendrix's first Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
