WePlayed Sports Players of the Week - Oct. 6
Football
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Football Players of the Week for games played during week five of the 2025 season. Newberry's Reed Charpia was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Catawba's Evan Simons was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Emory & Henry's Trace Butcher was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Charpia, a graduate student from Cayce, S.C., completed 34 of his 46 passes for 413 yards and six touchdowns as Newberry erased a 21-0 second quarter deficit to beat Wingate 43-42 in overtime. Charpia sent it to OT with a TD pass with 54 seconds left in regulation and then threw a 7-yard TD to pull the Wolves within one in overtime. Newberry elected to go for two and Charpia bought time before throwing across his body to find Keith Desaussure in the back of the end zone to give the Wolves a dramatic win. He completed 73 percent of his passes and the 413 yards passing are the eighth-best in Newberry history. His six TD tosses were one shy of a program record.
Simons, a graduate student from Chesapeake, Va., was a standout defensively as Catawba handed Mars Hill a 42-28 defeat on Saturday. Simons racked up 12 total tackles, including three tackles for loss which totaled 31 yards. He added a pair of sacks and intercepted a pass which he returned 23 yards. Mars Hill was the final unbeaten team in SAC play before falling to Catawba at Shuford Stadium. Simons ranks second in the league in sacks and seventh in total tackles.
Butcher, a senior from Dacula, Ga., went 3-for-3 on field goals, with a long of 47 yards, to help Emory & Henry defeat No. 22 Carson-Newman 19-13 on Saturday. Butcher is now a perfect 6-for-6 in field goal attempts on the season.

Volleyball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played during week five of the 2025 season. Wingate's Sydney Morland was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Anderson's Jamie Juhnevicz brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Morland, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., led #20 Wingate to a pair of key SAC wins, as they remained perfect in league play. The All-American piled up 27 kills on 56 swings while committing just 2 errors on the week, posting a .446 hitting percentage. Morland started her week with 12 kills against LR in a huge SAC victory against the other SAC unbeaten, adding 7 blocks on the night. She followed with 15 kills in 26 swings against LMU, adding 4 more blocks as the Bulldogs pushed their winning streak to 12.
Juhnevicz, a freshman from Taylors, S.C., piled up 38 digs in a pair of sweeps for the Trojans over Mars Hill and Carson-Newman. Against the Lions, she recorded 20 digs in the three sets and was perfect in serve receive. Against Carson-Newman, the freshman totaled 18 more digs and again was perfect in serve receive. She added 10 assists offensively for Anderson.

Men's Soccer
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week five of the 2025 season. Emory & Henry's Jean-Charles Eyidi was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Tusculum's Noe Delmotte brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Eyidi, a freshman from Briollay, France, assisted the lone goal of the match in E&H's 1-0 victory over Carson-Newman during the midweek, then scored a pair of goals to lift the Wasps to a 3-1 win at previously unbeaten Coker. Emory & Henry finished the week 2-0 and the Wasps are now in a tie for first place in the SAC.
Delmotte, a sophomore from Bondues, France, had a total of six saves as the Pioneers picked up a win and a draw during the week. Delmotte had five saves in a 2-1 win over Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, and made one save in a 0-0 draw with Mars Hill on Saturday. The shutout against Mars Hill was the second of the season for Delmotte.

Women's Soccer
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week five of the 2025 season. Wingate's Tilde Wahrenberg was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Anderson's Aliyah Morgan brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Wahrenberg, a freshman from Helsingborg, Sweden, led the Bulldogs to a pair of SAC wins. The freshman scored three goals last week to register six points. She started her week by scoring two of the team's three goals in the win at Mars Hill, which included the game-winning goal. Wahrenberg added a goal in the 4-2 win over LMU Saturday.
Morgan, a sophomore from Fort Myers, Fla., tallied 11 saves in a 1-0 shutout against regionally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday. She also helped contribute to a scoreless first half against Catawba, recording four saves against a regionally ranked and No. 8 team in the country. Over the week, she gave up just one goal and made 15 saves for a .938 save percentage.

Cross Country
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Cross Country Runners of the Week for meets competed in during the week of Sept. 29–Oct. 5. Wingate's Joaquin Campos was named the Men's Runner of the Week, while teammate Firdaouss Hriche earned Women's Runner of the Week honors.
Men's Runner of the Week – Joaquin Campos, Wingate
Campos, a junior from Concepción, Chile, led the No. 1-ranked Bulldogs with a personal-best 8K time of 23:31.4 at the Paul Short Run on Friday. He placed 16th overall in the College Gold Division, helping Wingate to a fifth-place team finish among 40 programs in the nation's largest collegiate cross country meet. The Bulldogs defeated several NCAA Division I opponents, including Penn State, Navy, Villanova, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh, along with Division III powerhouse Johns Hopkins.
Women's Runner of the Week – Firdaouss Hriche, Wingate
Hriche, a sophomore from Casablanca, Morocco, paced the No. 5 Wingate women's team with a personal-best 6K time of 20:48.9 at the Paul Short Run. Her performance, which shattered her previous PR by 39 seconds, propelled the Bulldogs to a 16th-place team finish in the 40-team College Gold Division. Wingate topped NCAA Division I programs Maryland and Brown, as well as Division III national powers Johns Hopkins and MIT.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Field Hockey Players of the Week for games played during the week of September 29–October 5, 2025. Newberry's Emma Westbrook was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Belmont Abbey's Lily Willard earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Offensive Player of the Week – Emma Westbrook, Newberry
Westbrook, a senior forward, powered the Wolves to a pair of dominant victories this week, scoring five goals and adding a defensive save across two games. She netted one goal in a 7–1 win at Wingate before erupting for four goals, including the game-winner, in a 6–1 victory at Converse. Westbrook was highly efficient, putting 10 of her 13 shots on target for a .769 shot-on-goal percentage while averaging 2.5 goals and 5.0 points per game. Her impact on both ends of the field helped lead Newberry to a 2–0 week, outscoring opponents 13–2.
Defensive Player of the Week – Lily Willard, Belmont Abbey
Willard, a redshirt junior goalkeeper from Coatesville, Pa., anchored the Crusaders' defense in a historic 3–2 win over No. 7 Lander — the highest-ranked victory in program history. She tallied eight saves while facing 22 total shots, posting an .800 save percentage to help Belmont Abbey extend its winning streak to five straight games. Willard's poise and presence in goal were crucial to the Crusaders' upset win and continued momentum in conference play.
