WePlayed Sports Players of the Week - Nov. 3
Football
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Football Players of the Week for games played during week nine of the 2025 season and it was a clean sweep for Newberry. Reed Charpia was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Jamar Blandin was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Burke Nettles was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Charpia, a senior from Cayce, S.C.., completed 26 of 41 passes to nine different receivers for 310 yards and two touchdowns and led the fourth game winning drive on the team's final offensive possession of the season in the Wolves 24-21 victory at Anderson. On the game winning drive Newberry took possession at its own 20-yard line with 2:29 left in the game and Charpia took over, completing three consecutive passes to three different receivers for 67 yards, the final one a 36-yard completion to take the ball down to the Trojan 13-yard line with just over a minute left to play. He led the game tying drive before the end of the first half completing six of eight passes to five different receivers for 69 yards culminating with an eight-yard touchdown pass. He now has 2,415 yards passing (4th most in Newberry history) with 20 touchdowns (tied for 5th) and just one interception on the season while completing nearly 70% of his passes. He has thrown 154 consecutive passes without an interception.
Blandin, a senior from Charleston, S.C., led the Newberry defense with ten tackles including two and a half sacks and three quarterback hurries. One of those hurries led to a Newberry touchdown as he combined with teammate Mason Grier to hit the Anderson quarterback which forced an interception that was returned 72 yards for a score in the first quarter. He had a tackle to stop the Trojans on third down at the Wolves 49-yard line on the first drive of the second half with the score tied at 14. He had a sack during Anderson's second drive of the second half which also resulted in a punt and ended the game with a sack at the Anderson 35-yard line.
Nettles, a senior from Kingsland, Ga., provided the winning margin with a 22-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining to propel Newberry to its sixth consecutive win. Nettles averaged 41.3 yards per punt on seven kicks placing two inside the 20-yard line, forced four fair catches, made all three of his extra point attempts and had three touchbacks on five kickoffs

Volleyball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played during week nine of the 2025 season. Wingate's Maya Van Heyst was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Lenoir-Rhyne's Hadley Prince brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Van Heyst, a junior from Tampa, Fla., had another impressive week, leading #19 Wingate to three SAC sweeps as the Bulldogs guaranteed at least a share of the regular season SAC title for the 19th time in 20 years, while also pushing the winning streak to 22. Van Heyst handed out 11.56 assists per set while also piling up 18 kills with a .515 hitting percentage, adding 16 digs, 3 aces and 2 blocks. She started her week with 35 assists, 5 digs, 4 kills and an ace in the sweep at Coker, as the Bulldogs hit .347 on the day. She had 30 assists, 4 kills and 4 digs in the sweep over Carson-Newman Friday night. Van Heyst capped her week with 39 assists, 10 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces in the sweep at Newberry, helping Wingate hit .426 on the day. The league leader in assists has Wingate in the top 10 nationally in kills per set, assists per set, digs per set and hitting percentage.
Prince, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., totaled 55 digs for the Bears in a pair of wins over Tusculum. On Oct 28, she recorded 28 digs in a 3-1 win and came back to notch 27 digs in a 3-0 sweep on Halloween. For the week, she averaged 7.86 digs per set and had a .964 serve receive percentage.

Men's Soccer
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week eight of the 2025 season. Lincoln Memorial swept the weekly awards with Enrique Martin being named the Offensive Player of the Week and Daniel Benedek Miklosi bringing home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Martin, a sophomore from Santander, Cantabria, Spain, netted the game-winning goal in the 64th minute as Lincoln Memorial defeated No. 5 Anderson 1-0 on Oct. 28. The Railsplitters handed Anderson its first loss of the season and Martin's goal clinched Lincoln Memorial a home game in the Quarterfinal of the SAC Tournament.
Miklosi, a junior from Budapest, Hungary, made five saves in the aforementioned clean sheet over No. 5 Anderson last Wednesday. This is the second SAC Defensive Player of the Week award for Miklosi this season.

Women's Soccer
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week nine of the 2025 season. Lenior-Rhyne's Katie Durham was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Newberry's Madison Gutierrez brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Durham, a sophomore from Boone, N.C., contributed to all three goals in the Bears 3-2 victory over Tusculum on Nov. 1. Durham had one goal and assisted on two more, including the game-winner, as the Bears kept pace with Catawba for the regular season title.
Gutierrez, a junior from Buckeye, Ariz., was a defensive standout for the Wolves this week, recording 17 saves across two matches, including an 11-save shutout against No. 3 Catawba. The senior goalkeeper faced 33 total shots and 14 on goal in the draw, keeping the nationally ranked Catawba Indians scoreless for 90 minutes.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Field Hockey Players of the Week for games played during the week of October 27–November 2, 2025. Lincoln Memorial's Lise Holla was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Newberry's Emma Hulsmeyer was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Holla delivered a breakout performance for the Railsplitters, scoring both goals in a 2–1 victory over Converse. The freshman forward was perfect in her chances, converting on both of her shots for a 100 percent shooting percentage. Her efficiency and composure in front of goal powered Lincoln Memorial to an important conference win, marking the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career and sealing the game-winning tally.

Hulsmeyer anchored a dominant Newberry defense that posted back-to-back shutouts against Wingate and Belmont Abbey. The senior defender limited opponents to just seven total shots across two matches and added a goal of her own in the Wolves' 4–0 win over Wingate. Her leadership and organization along the back line helped the Wolves control possession and maintain complete defensive control, extending their late-season surge heading into tournament play.
