Tusculum, Catawba Ranked in Collegiate Baseball Poll
TUSCON, Ariz. -- Two South Atlantic Conference baseball teams will start the 2007 season ranked among the nation's best.
The Tusculum College baseball team is ranked No. 25 in the
nation according to the 2007 Preseason Collegiate Baseball NCAA
Division II Top 40 poll, while Catawba College comes in at No.
28.
The Pioneers return 13 lettermen from last year's 40-14-1 squad
that captured Tusculum's second straight South Atlantic Conference
championship and posted 40 wins for a second consecutive
campaign.
Tusculum received 250 votes and moved up one spot from its No.
26 position at the end of the 2006 season. Defending national
champion Tampa is listed No. 1 in this year's inaugural poll.
The Pioneers open the season Feb. 3 when they face Newberry College
in the opening game of the Preseason SAC Tournament in Kannapolis,
N.C.
Catawba shared the 2006 league title with Tusculum, and went on to win the 2006 Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament championship. The Indians finished the year ranked 10th in the final 2006 poll.
