Tusculum’s Gonzalez, LMU’s Workman Named Baseball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum shortstop Maikol Gonzalez and Lincoln Memorial pitcher Joe Workman have been named the South Atlantic Conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week, which was announced by league officials on Monday afternoon.
Gonzalez batted a robust .667 (8-for-12) for the week, leading the 25th-ranked Pioneers to a 3-0 record. The junior from Maraca Ibo, Venezuala started off the season with a 4-for-4 performance in a 13-2 victory over Newberry. Gonzalez accounted for a double and three RBI to go along with a stolen base. He followed that effort, going 2-for-4 in TC's 10-2 win over Wingate. Gonzalez added a triple, an RBI and scored a run. In Tusculum's 6-1 win over No. 28 Catawba, Gonzalez went 2-for-4 again, while scoring a run.

Workman stated off the season with a shutout complete-game victory over 22nd-ranked USC Aiken on Friday. The senior from Dayton, KY scattered six hits en-route to the opening day victory for the Railsplitters. In the preseason, Workman was named to the Preseason All-SAC Second Team.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors in the league.
