Pairings Announced For 2007 Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Tusculum Pioneers, who claimed their third consecutive South Atlantic Conference baseball championship, are the top seed for the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament, which kicks off Thursday at Municipal Stadium in Greenville, S.C.
The Pioneers (18-5 SAC, 41-10) are ranked 13th in the most recent Collegiate Baseball Division II poll. Tusculum will face sixth seed Wingate (10-13, 21-28) in the Thursday opener at noon.
Carson-Newman earned the second seed. The Eagles (15-6, 27-17) will face fifth seed Newberry at 3:45 p.m. Newberry (12-11, 19-27) finished tied for fourth in the regular season standings with Lenoir-Rhyne. Lenoir-Rhyne earned the fourth seed by taking two of three games in the series with Newberry.
The Bears (12-11, 35-15) will face third seed Catawba (12-10, 29-16) in the nightcap Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The top six teams in the conference earned berths to the Food Lion SAC Tournament. The bracket format follows the NCAA regional six-team bracket.
Tournament play continues with three games on Friday. Three more games are set for Saturday. The championship game will be played Sunday at 1 p.m., with a second game, if necessary, to follow.
All-Tournament tickets will be available at the gate for $12 for adults and $6 for children and students. Daily ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children.
