Tusculum’s Rosa, Newberry’s Petty Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum College's Christian Rosa along with Newberry College's Brandon Petty have been named the South Atlantic Conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced by league officials on Monday.
Rosa, a catcher for the Pioneers, batted .571 (8-for-14) for the week as Tusculum won the SAC Baseball Championship by sweeping Lenoir-Rhyne College. The junior clubbed two homeruns for the week, including the game-winner in extra innings on Saturday against L-R. For the week, the Toa Baja, Puerto Rico native drove in nine runs, scored five runs, and had a remarkable 1.071 slugging percentage.

Petty, a starting pitcher for the Indians continued his brilliant performance against SAC competition, winning his third straight game by tossing a complete-game five-hitter against Catawba College on Friday. The junior fanned nine batters and extended his scoreless inning streak without giving up an earned run to 24 innings. The Melbourne, Fla. native lowered his ERA to 2.53 on the season, logging 96 innings pitched on the season with 68 strikeouts.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors in the league.
