Catawba’s Moore, Carson-Newman’s Bridgewater Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba College's Wade Moore has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman College's Austin Bridgewater earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending February 8, announced conference officials Tuesday.
Moore, a senior outfielder from Salisbury, N.C. (West Rowan HS/N.C. State) reached base in 15 of 17 plate appearances to begin the 2010 season. He collected six hits with eight walks and was hit by a pitch to help the 17th-ranked Indians to a 3-0 start. Against Pfeiffer, Moore was 2-for-3 and had a key two-out, two-run double in the eighth to help Catawba pad a 6-4 lead. In the opener of a double header with California, PA, Moore reached base all six times with two hits and four walks and delivered the winning single with two outs in the ninth. In game two he reached base five of six times, scored three runs and stole four bases. For the week, Moore had a .750 average (6-for-8) with a pair of doubles. He scored six runs and drove in four while stealing six bases. He had an on-base percentage of .882.

Bridgewater, a junior right-handed pitcher from Morristown, Tenn. (Walters State C.C.), fired the Eagles past Augusta State in an 8-0 win on Sunday afternoon, with 7.1 innings of shutout ball and 10 strikeouts. He allowed just four hits and surrendered four walks. His 10 strikeouts are the most by an Eagle since the 2008 season.
