Tusculum’s Richmond, Newberry’s Love Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum College's Jared Richmond has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Newberry College's Chris Love earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending February 15, announced conference officials Tuesday.
Richmond, a senior from Fort Smith, Ark. (Arkansas-Fort Smith), batted .500 on the week as the Pioneers split a four-game series with visiting Saint Joseph's (Ind.) College.
Richmond went 8-for-16 in the series, including a double, two home runs and eight RBI. He posted a .968 slugging percentage to go along with a .600 on-base percentage in the four games against the Pumas. The 2009 All-SAC First Team standout accounted for two hits in each game of the series. In Tusculum's 8-6 victory, Richmond went 2-for-3 with a double and a home-run for four RBI. His two-run double in the eighth inning, drove in the game-winning score. he also drew a pair of walks and recorded an outfield assist. In TC's 14-8 win, Richmond went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI as the Pioneers rallied from a 7-0 deficit.

Love, a junior right-handers from Columbia, S.C. (USC Sumter / Richland Northeast HS), moved his record to 2-0 with a complete game win over St. Rose in the series finale on Sunday. He struck out seven batters and allowed one earned run on six hits. He faced 26 batters before issuing a walk and cruised to a victory. For the season, Love has won both of his starts and has a 4.91 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched. He also went 4-for-15 (.267) at the plate last week with 2 RBIs, 3 runs and a double. For the season at the plate, he is batting .310 with 1 homerun, 3 doubles, 8 RBIs and 8 runs scored.
