Wingate’s Siega-Riz, Carson-Newman’s Bridgewater Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University's Nick Siega-Riz has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman College's Austin Bridgewater earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 1, announced conference officials Tuesday.
Siega-Riz, a redshirt senior from Clemmons, N.C. (West Forsyth HS), hit .400 on the week, while hitting five homers in Wingate's six games and driving in 10 runs. The Bulldogs took the weekend series over Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference action, with Siega-Riz hitting three homers and a triple over the weekend. He had a homer and two RBI in game one against No. 9 Mount Olive, followed by a homer, double and three RBI in the nightcap. Siega-Riz homered in Saturday's first game against Mars Hill. He led off the second game with a homer, then added a three-run homer in Wingate's 6-3 victory.
Bridgewater, a junior from Morristown, Tenn. (Walters State C.C.), set the tone for the Eagles sweep of Newberry last weekend. The junior fired a complete-game five hitter, surrenduring only one unearned run, in the Eagles series-opening win over visiting NC, 9-1.
Bridgewater struck out five, while walking three, to improve to 2-1 on the season. He wins the Pitcher of the Week honor for the second time this season.
C-N improved to 4-2 in SAC play with the series sweep.
