Tusculum’s Henriksen, Catawba’s Lomascolo Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum College's Matt Henriksen has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Catawba College's Nick Lomascolo earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 6, announced conference officials Tuesday.
Henriksen, a sophomore third baseman from Hingham, Mass. (Hingham HS), wins the award for the second time this season. He batted .588 with five doubles and seven RBI to lead the Tusculum baseball team to a perfect 5-0 record. The Pioneers (14-4) swept a two-game series against NCAA Southeast Region opponent St. Andrews and followed with a three-game sweep against SAC archrival Carson-Newman.
He went 10-for-17 on the week, while posting an .882 slugging percentage and a .682 on-base percentage. He was also very impressive on defense as he went errorless in his 18 total chances, including a dozen fielding assists. In the St. Andrews series, he went 7-for-8 with five RBI and three doubles, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the series finale. In game two of the C-N series, he went 2-for-4 and hit a game-tying RBI double in the ninth to send the contest into extra innings in a 9-4 Tusculum win. TC rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the ninth to post the win.
Lomascolo, a sophomore from Mooresville, N.C. (Lake Norman HS), allowed just one run over eight innings in a 7-3 win over Wingate to open the weekend series on Friday. The sophomore surrendered just five hits with one walk and nine strikeouts as he improved to 3-1.
