LMU’s Horsley, Carson-Newman’s Bridgewater Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Lincoln Memorial University's Joseph Horsley has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman College's Austin Bridgewater earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending April 3, announced conference officials Monday.
Horsley, a junior shortstop from Corryton, Tenn. (Rutledge HS), was instrumental in the Railsplitters being able to pick-up two conference wins over league opponent Newberry College. He led the team for the week with a .533 batting average, which included a triple in the third game against the Wolves. He went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in that 14-3 victory. He also had four stolen bases with one run scored and an RBI in LMU's 11-10 victory in game one of the series on Saturday. Defensively, Horsley had five putouts, 15 assists and no errors on the week.
Bridgewater, a senior right-hander from Morristown, Tenn. (Walters State C.C.), pitched the Eagles past Wingate University in a 9-2 road win Friday night, setting the stage for C-N's series win over the Bulldogs. He allowed just four-hits in the complete-game win, while striking out seven. He induced 14 ground outs in the win to help limit the SAC's second-ranked offense.
