Tusculum, Catawba Earn Spots in First NCAA Baseball Regional Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS - Tusculum and Catawba - the top two teams in the SAC regular-season standings - have been ranked in the initial NCAA Baseball Southeast Region poll, which was released on Wednesday. Tusculum is ranked No. 2 in the poll, while Catawba is No. 5.
Tusculum, ranked second in this week's NCBWA national poll, is currently 44-7 on the season. The Pioneers went 24-3 in SAC play, and won last week's Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship in Forest City, N.C.
TC's 24 SAC wins this season set a conference record.
Catawba, meanwhile, is 38-12 overall and went 23-4 in league play. The Indians went on a six-game winning streak prior to being eliminated from the SAC Championship by Carson-Newman.
Tusculum is currently 39-6 against the Southeast Region, while Catawba is 38-12.
The NCAA Baseball Southeast Region poll is the official ranking systems used by the NCAA Baseball Committee during the NCAA Championship selection and seeding process. Poll will be released each week until the Championship field is announced on May 13.
