Six SAC Baseball Players Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team
WINGATE, N.C. - The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Teams were announced on Thursday, with six SAC student-athletes earning spots on the District 3 team.
The Capital One Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Tusculum and Newberry led the conference with two selections apiece on the team.
Representing the Pioneers were pitcher Taylor Rakes and catcher Cody Coffman. Rakes -- a junior -- is majoring in business and economics, while Coffman is a senior studying physical therapy.
Newberry junior Mario Rojas, a pitcher majoring in business administration, was selected to the team along with teammate Andy Vogel, a junior infielder studying business administration.
Wingate infielder Jacob Karr earned a spot on the team, as did Catawba infielder Brett Underwood.
Karr is a senior accounting major, while Underwood is a senior studying communications.
The Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team also includes student-athletes from Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt.
