Baseball season has arrived in the SAC, and Wingate second baseman Shane Billings and Coker pitcher Matt Prosser have claimed the conference’s first set of weekly awards, it was announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Baseball season has arrived in the SAC, and Wingate second baseman Shane Billings and Coker pitcher Matt Prosser have claimed the conference's first set of weekly awards, it was announced on Tuesday.
SAC Baseball Player of the Week | Shane Billings, Wingate
Billings opened his season by hitting .667 in Wingate's three-game sweep of St. Augustine's over the weekend, finishing with eight hits in 12 at bats while piling up six RBI.
Billings had two three-hit games in the series, and belted a home run in Wingate's 9-1 Sunday finale victory.
The freshman also scored seven runs and stole a base over the weekend.
SAC Pitcher of the Week | Matt Prosser, Coker
In his Coker debut, Prosser tossed six shutout innings on Sunday to earn the win in Coker's 12-3 victory over Chowan, allowing only two hits while striking out seven.
Prosser needed just 77 pitches to complete five innings, and surrendered just a single walk.
Prosser's strong performance also claimed a 2-1 series victory for Coker on the season's opening weekend.
