Anderson’s Galliford, Wingate’s Vaughan Named SAC Baseball Players of the Week
With their teams coming off weekend SAC series sweeps, Anderson outfielder Nate Galliford and Wingate pitcher Stephen Vaughan have been voted as the conference’s baseball weekly award winners.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – With their teams coming off weekend SAC series sweeps, Anderson outfielder Nate Galliford and Wingate pitcher Stephen Vaughan have been voted as the conference's baseball weekly award winners.
SAC Baseball Player of the Week | Nate Galliford, Anderson
Galliford hit .333 with a .476 on-base percentage, nine runs and nine RBI as Anderson went 4-1 overall, including a weekend series sweep of Coker.
After going hitless in a Tuesday loss at Erskine, Galliford followed with two hits – including a double – two RBI and three walks on Thursday in a 22-12 Anderson win over North Greenville. He then totaled five hits and homered in each game of the Coker series, helping the Trojans improve to 6-3 in conference play.
Galliford currently leads the SAC with seven homers and is second in RBI with 24.
SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Stephen Vaughan, Wingate
Vaughan was dominant on Saturday after entering Wingate's game with Tusculum in relief in the second inning. He allowed just one hit and struck out seven while completing the game, leading the Bulldogs to a 6-5 SAC victory.
The right hander needed only 75 pitches to throw the final 7.1 innings – 58 of which went for strikes.
Vaughan improved his ERA to 1.38 in 13 innings this season. He has struck out 13 hitters compared to a single walk.
