The South Atlantic Conference Announces Baseball Players of the Week, April 26
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Ryan Perkins was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Shaefer Shepard of Catawba was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 18-24, the League announced today.
Perkins, a senior from Woodruff, S.C., batted .520 (13-of-25) with a home run and eight runs batted in to lead the Bears to a 4-1 week including a sweep of Anderson in the final South Atlantic Conference weekend series of the year. In the first game against the Trojans on Saturday, Perkins hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the 5-4 victory. Perkins had at least two hits in all five games last week to go along with five runs scored and a .760 slugging percentage. The honor marks his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Shepard, a junior from Boca Raton, Fla., struck out 10 hitters in a complete game win over Wingate on April 23. He did not allow a walk in his outing and had a stretch in the game where he retired 14 batters in a row. He allowed only two earned run in his outing as only three Wingate hitters reached base in the first seven innings. The honor is his first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
