The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Jaden Steagall was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Newberry's Tomas Sorcia Jr. was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week one of the 2020 season, the Conference office announced today.
Steagall, a sophomore from Hiram, Ga., had an outstanding opening weekend at the plate, batting .750 with a double, a home run and seven RBIs for the Pioneers. He collected multiple hits in all three of Tusculum's games, including going 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored against Lynn. Steagall also posted a .800 on-base percentage and a 1.083 slugging percentage for the week.
Sorcia, a senior from Saluda, S.C., was nearly untouchable on the mound in his season-opening appearance for the Wolves. He earned the win, throwing six innings allowing just one hit with no runs, two walks and 11 strikeouts in Newberry's 5-2 win over Belmont Abbey.
This is Steagall's first Player of the Week honor this season, while this also marks the first Pitcher of the Week for Sorcia.
