Wingate Sweeps South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's McCann Mellett was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while teammate Mac Callari was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week six of the 2020 season, the Conference office announced today. 

Mellett, a senior second baseman from Charlotte, N.C., led the Bulldogs to a SAC sweep of Anderson last week. He batted .692 in the series with two doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, and five runs scored. Three of his nine hits went for extra bases and he finished the weekend with a .714 on-base percentage and a 1.077 slugging percentage.

Callari, a junior right-hander from Hollywood, Fla., was nearly untouchable for Wingate last week in its 5-2 win over Anderson. He earned the win on the mound after going eight and a third of innings, scattering five hits with a pair of walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and both of Anderson's runs were unearned and scored in the ninth inning.

This is Mellett's first Player of the Week honor this season, while this also marks the first Pitcher of the Week for Callari.
