The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Fuzzy Furr was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Wingate's Brody McCullough was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week five of the 2021 season, the Conference office announced today. 

Furr, a senior outfielder from Marietta, Ga., helped lead the Pioneers to a series win over Mars Hill last week. In Tusculum's doubleheader sweep of the Lions Furr belted three home runs with a double, nine RBIs, and five runs scored. He finished the week with a .667 batting average, a .714 on-base percentage, and a 2.333 slugging percentage.

McCullough, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Lexington, N.C., picked up a pair of wins on the mound for the Bulldogs last week. He worked two and a third innings of relief to pick up the win against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. He allowed just one hit with five strikeouts and no runs. McCullough then went five innings again out of the bullpen on Sunday in the Bulldog's 10-6 victory over LMU. He again held the Railsplitters scoreless, scattering four hits with six punchouts.

This is Furr's first Player of the Week honor this season, while this marks the first Pitcher of the Week for McCullough.
