Lenoir-Rhyne's Galassi Earns NCBWA Region Player of the Week Honors
Wingate, N.C.----Lenoir-Rhyne University senior outfielder Drue Galassi has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Georgia Southwestern University senior right-hander Tucker Smith is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.
Galassi led the Bears to a 4-1 record, including a four-game sweep of SAC foe UVA Wise. He hit .450 for the week with a .542 on-base percentage and 1.200 slugging percentage. He belted four home runs, drove in eight runs, scored 12 runs, and had three doubles, while also stealing two bases.
Smith threw the first no-hitter in the Peach Belt since 2017 and the first no-hitter in a conference game since 2005 as he blanked Claflin in the series opener. The senior hit Claflin's first batter of the game, then proceeded to set down the next 27 in order, coming that close to a perfect game. He issued no hits and no walks while striking out 12. It was the first no-hitter for GSW in the NCAA era and he did it with 115 pitches, 84 for strikes.
