Wingate's McCullough Earns NCBWA Region Pitcher of the Week Honors

Wingate, N.C.----Georgia Southwestern University senior outfielder Jonathan Martin has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Wingate University redshirt sophomore right-hander Brody McCullough is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.

Martin was unstoppable in four games last week, hitting .714 in four games with five home runs and 18 RBI. He became only the second player in PBC history to hit four homers in a single game, the first since 1993, in the series finale against Augusta. That tied the PBC record and his nine RBI in that contest are tied for fifth-most in a single game in PBC history. He hit .750 in the three-game set, hitting two doubles and a homer in the opener with three RBI, then went five-for-five in game two with two more doubles and four RBI. He also drove in a pair against Valdosta State in a mid-week game. He had a 1.667 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage, scored 12 runs and stole a base. His four home runs is the most in a single game in all three NCAA divisions this season.

McCullough went 2-0 on the week, tossing 10 2/3 shutout innings in his two appearances, allowing just three singles while striking out nine and walking just one. McCullough got the start Wednesday night against #8 Mount Olive and tossed five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. He was back on the mound just three days later, going 5 2/3 innings in relief against Carson-Newman, striking out four while allowing just two hits.
