SAC Places 21 on Daktronics All-South Region Football Team

SEARCY, Ark. - 21 players from six South Atlantic Conference schools were named to the 2003 Daktronics All-South Region Football Team, announced today.

SAC Co-Champion Catawba College led the way with six honorees, five of them on the second team. Offensive guard Cole Bean was the lone First Team selection for the Indians. Named to the Second Team were offensive tackle Joe Nixon, running back Rodney Wallace, defensive lineman Khanis Hubbard and linebacker SaMario Houston

SAC Co-Champion Carson-Newman College had five players on the squad, including First Team selections Reggie Perkins at offensive guard and Justin Anderson at center. Second Team selections for the Eagles are tight end Leonard Weaver, cornerback Deonte Bolden and safety Avery Blue.

Tusculum College offensive tackle Alan Dunn was one of six players on the team to repeat as a First Team selection. Dunn was named a First Team All-Conference and received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy for the second year in a row. Pioneer cornerback Ricardo Colclough, the SAC's Defensive Player of the Year, was also a First Team selection. Linebacker Craig Pritchett and safety D.J. Starling were Second Team picks.

Wingate University had three selections, with two on the First Team. Representing the Bulldogs are defensive lineman John Bowman and punter Chris Brewer as First Team selections, and linebacker Demarkes Dogan on the Second Team.

Presbyterian College all-purpose back Terry Meng and Newberry linebacker Terrance Leverett were also named to the Second Team.

The Daktronics All-South Region Team was selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

First Team honorees move on to the national ballot. The Daktronics All-America team will be released on Dec. 22.
