Catawba’s Cuthbertson, Davis, Wingate’s Pinchinat Named Football Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending Sep. 6, 2008. Catawba College running back Jamelle Cuthbertson was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week while Catawba defensive end Marqus Davis was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. Wingate University returner Patrick Pinchinat was named the SAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Cuthbertson, 5-8, 185-pound senior from Charlotte, N.C., helped Catawba rally from a 13-0 deficit in the opening four minutes by rushing for 150 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-29 win over Elizabeth City State University. He recorded 16 carries for a 9.4 yards per attempt average. Cuthbertson also added two catches for 18 yards in the victory.

Davis, a 6-2, 240-pound product of Charlotte, N.C., sealed Catawba's win over Elizabeth City State by sacking Viking quarterback Curtis Rich, causing a fumble which he returned 47 yards for a touchdown, to seal the win. On the night, Davis had two sacks among his 3.5 stops for losses as he finished with six tackles to go along with two hurries.
Pinchinat, a 6-1, 220-pound native of Rockville, Md., returned a kick-off 85 yards for a second quarter touchdown as Wingate rallied for a 35-31 win at North Greenville University. The special teams' TD gave Wingate a 14-3 lead at the 8:52 mark of the second frame. Pinchinat also rushed for a touchdown later in the contest and recorded one assisted tackle on special teams.
The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week are selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
