ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The South Atlantic Conference Football
Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending
September 26, 2010. Brevard College swept the awards, as the
Tornados dominated Southern Virginia, 69-7. Running back Thadus
Benton was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while linebacker
Trey Jenkins was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and punter
Eric Watts was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

SAC Offensive Player Of The Week
Thadus Benton III, Brevard College

Thadus Benton carried the ball 16 times for 142 yards against
Southern Virginia on Saturday and found the end zone five times in
leading the Tornados to a 69-7 victory. Benton carried the ball in
from 13 yards, 18 yards, 10 yards and six yards to set a new BC
rushing record with four rushing touchdowns in a game, and also
caught a seven yard touchdown pass from Michael Crumbaker to set a
new BC record with five touchdowns scored in a game. Benton
averaged 8.9 yards per carry, with a long of 55 yards coming on the
Tornados third offensive possession of the game, setting up his
first collegiate touchdown run, while guiding the Tornados to new
team records as Brevard recorded 519 yards on the ground and nine
rushing touchdowns in the game. For the season, Benton has picked
up 291 yards on the ground on 65 carries, averaging 72.8 yards per
game and 4.5 yards per carry, while scoring four touchdowns.

SAC Defensive Player Of The Week
Trey Jenkins, Brevard College

Trey Jenkins led the defensive effort for the Tornados as
Brevard shut out the Southern Virginia offense on the evening,
holding the Knights to 202 yards on 59 plays, averaging 3.4 yards
per play. Southern Virginia scored their lone touchdown of the game
on a turnover, returning a fumble for a score. Jenkins led all
Tornados defenders with six total tackles, five solo, and recorded
a sack on the afternoon. He also made several key stops on kickoff
return and was key to Brevard held SVU to 53 yards on the ground in
the contest.

SAC Special Teams Player Of The Week
Eric Watts, Brevard College

University)
Eric Watts punted the ball two times for 112 yards, with one of
his kicks traveling over 50 yards in successfully pinning the
Knights inside their 20-yard line on both kicks. Watts drove a 47
yard punt in the second quarter and added a 65 yard punt in the
fourth quarter in the game as he averaged 56.0 yards per kick. In
addition to his punting duties, Watts also started at wide
receiver, catching two passes for 25 yards in the game. Watts is
leading the SAC with 48.2 yards per punt attempt on the season.
