Last meeting: Brevard won 27-24 in overtime last
year in Brevard.
Game Notes: This is a matchup of the two teams
searching for their first conference win of the season. Tusculum's
last five contests being decided by seven points or less, including
last week's 34-31 SAC loss at Lenoir-Rhyne. Brevard went 3-1 during
its non-conference slate with its only loss coming to NCAA FCS
Gardner-Webb. But like Tusculum, the Tornados have gone winless in
SAC play, including a 44-37 loss to Wingate in Asheville last
Saturday. Tusculum boasts the No. 1 passing attack in the country
averaging 419.5 yards per game. Brevard will counter with a potent
rushing game that churns out 299.9 yards per contest (3rd in
SAC/4th in NCAA II). Brevard's Neville Bryce set single game
Brevard records in rushing yards (224), carries (35) and rushing
touchdowns (4) last week against Wingate. Freshman Kelvin Jeter set
the BC single season rushing record last week and is currently
third in the SAC and 27th in the NCAA, averaging 103.1 yards per
game. The Pioneers are ranked No. 1 in the nation in pass offense
(419.5 ypg), led by Harlon Hill Trophy candidate Bo Cordell, who
leads the nation in passing (417.5 ypg), total offense (412.75 ypg)
and completions per game (36.13 cpg) for NCAA, all divisions (FBS,
FCS, II, III). Deonte' Gist is tops in the SAC in receptions per
game (9.00 rpg), while Kicker Gareth Rowlands leads the league in
scoring (9.0 ppg), kick scoring (9.0 ppg), field goals (1.75 avg),
field goal percentage (.778) and PAT kicking percentage (30-30,
1.00).

Last meeting: Mars Hill got 232 yards from Jonas
Randolph, with a pair of first-half touchdowns in a driving
rainstorm, and held on to upset 13th-ranked Catawba, 14-12 last
year in Mars Hill.
Game Notes: Catawba rallied from a 17-7
first-quarter deficit to claim a 28-25 win over host Newberry last
week. Patrick Dennis threw for a career-high 384 yards and three
scores. Jumal Rolle had two forced fumbles and an interception and
was named the SAC's Defensive Player of the Week. Gerron Bryant had
a career-high 195 yards receiving. Mars Hill is coming off a 34-27
loss to Carson-Newman on a Thursday night game. Jonas Randolph
broke the Mars Hill career rushing record with a 27 yard gallop
late in the first quarter. Randolph finished the game with 30
carries for 191 yards, with 140 of those yards coming in the first
half. The Daleville, Ala., native now has 3,007 yards, surpassing
Travis McFadden's (1999-2003) 2,859 career rushing yards. Randolph
leads the SAC with 117 yards per gameFrankie Waters had three
catches for 99 yards and one touchdown. P.J. Gore recorded four
catches for 58 yards and one touchdown. Marzarius Samon posted a
game-high 16 tackles for Mars Hill, including two tackles for loss
and one sack.

Game Notes: Brevard The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears are
riding a two-game winning streak. Wingate has won three in a row.
Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Tusculum last week, 34-31, while Wingate beat
Brevard, 44-37. Lenoir-Rhyne continues to rank first in NCAA
Division II in rushing at 306.2 yards per game. The Bears lead the
South Atlantic Conference in total defense (272.0 ypg), rushing
defense (80.2 ypg), scoring defense (20.2 ppg), quarterback sacks
(27) and time of possession (33:57). Junior placekicker Colin Corpe
is this week's SAC Special Teams Player Of The Week after hitting
all four field goal attempts (tying his own school record) in last
Saturday's 34-31 win over Tusculum. Wingate redshirt junior
quarterback Cody Haffly completed 23-of-32 passes for 379 yards and
a career-high (tying) five touchdowns and was named the SAC
Offensive Player of the Week. Perry Floyd ranks second nationally
in all-purpose yards. Last week, he had seven catches for 112 yards
and a touchdown, two punt returns for 81 yards and a 28-yard
kickoff return. Wingate averages 423.9 yards of total offense per
outing while Haffly is second in the league in passing (323.7 ypg)
and Floyd leads the SAC in punt return average (16.1 ypr) and
all-purpose yards (191.6 ypg).

SAC record 16 fumbles and C-N's Carlos Lopez made a last-minute
field goal in the pouring rain to seal a 23-20 Carson-Newman
victory.
Game Notes: The Eagles are one of four teams in a
deadlock for first place in the SAC at 3-1 entering the week, along
with Catawba, Mars Hill and Wingate. Carson-Newman is second in the
conference and third in the nation in rushing offense at just over
300 yards per game on the ground. Nate Inman is second in the
conference and is 16th nationally with 115.75 rushing yards per
game, while Brandon Baker is 6th in the league and 49th nationally
with 80.25 yards per game on the ground. Punter Chris Jones is
second in the SAC and 9th nationally in punting at 43.15 yards per
boot. The Eagles plus-9 turnover margin this season leads the SAC
and ranks in the top 20 in the nation. Newberry safety Ron Parker,
a preseason All-American selection and the reigning SAC Defensive
Player of the Year, has recorded 51 tackles, four interceptions and
three fumble recoveries. Newberry redshirt freshman quarterback
Parker Hite is expected to earn his first start in place of the
injured Bryan Ehrlich.
