Football Weekly Report]
Lenoir-Rhyne quarterback Major Herron is the Offensive Player
of the Week after leading the Bears to their first home win over
Carson-Newman since 1978 on Saturday. He finished with 134 yards
of total offense -- a team-high 73 yards rushing and 61 yards
through the air. He also scored a rushing touchdown.
Herron managed L-R's offense to perfection. He did not commit
a turnover, was not sacked, and helped the Bears to a more than
10-minute advantage in time-of-posession.
Wingate linebacker Jared Seate earned Defensive Player of the
Week honors after a dominating performance in the Bulldogs'
thrilling overtime victory against UNC Pembroke. The junior
finished with a career-high 18 tackles -- 11 of which were solo.
The 18 tackles were the second-most by a SAC player this season.
Seate also shared a tackle for loss and forced a fumble.
Special Teams Player of the Week went to punter Eric Watts
from Brevard. Watts punted the ball four times for 209 yards in
Brevard's game against Mars Hill, with three of his kicks traveling
over 50 yards. Watts pinned the Lions inside their 20 three
times, and averaged 52.2 yards per punt attempt in the
contest.
Watts opened the game with a field position-turning 60 yard
punt in the first quarter, tying the longest punt in the SAC this
season.
