Wingate’s Haffly Selected to Play in National Bowl Game
VOORHEES, N.J.-- Wingate University redshirt senior quarterback Cody Haffly has been selected to play in the National Bowl Game in Allentown, Pa. on Sunday, Dec. 4. The National Bowl Game is a football all-star game for college seniors from across the nation.
All-American and All-Conference players are eligible for the
invite-only game.
The second annual National Bowl Game, presented by East Preps, LLC,
is set for the historic J. Birney Crum Stadium (capacity 15,000) in
Allentown. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday. Professional
scouts from five leagues will be in attendance. Last year, National
Bowl Game alumni went to the NFL, CFL, AFL, IFL and the UIFL.
"I'm very excited to have the chance to play one more time in my
college career," Haffly says "It's going to be fun to step on the
field with great players from all over the country."
Haffly concludes his brilliant career 738-of-1232 for 9568 yards
and 94 touchdowns. For the second year in a row, Haffly was a
regional finalist for the prestigious Harlon Hill Trophy. He was
named All-South Atlantic Conference second team for the second
consecutive year.
This year, Haffly led the SAC in total offense (283.00 yards per
game). He completed 275-of-459 passes for 3175 yards and 29
touchdowns. Haffly had six 300-plus yard passing games, including
338 yards in a comeback victory at UNC Pembroke (33-of-52).
"This is a great opportunity for Cody and for our program as he
will get a chance to go against the best in the country," Wingate
head coach Joe Reich says. "Cody deserves this opportunity. We are
excited to see him perform in a national game. Cody has meant so
much to our program during his career. We wish him all the success
in the world."
Earlier this month, Haffly was named the 2011 SAC Scholar-Athlete
Award winner for football. This achievement recognizes excellence
in academics, athletics, service and leadership. The league's
Faculty Athletic Representatives selected Haffly for this
prestigious honor. Haffly was one of four Bulldogs named to the
2011 Capital One Academic All-Super Region 2 team. Haffly carries a
3.311 GPA as a physical education major.
In 2010, Haffly was a Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Super
Region 2 and All-SAC second team choice. He was 274-of-448 for 3952
yards and 42 scores for the SAC champions. He had 477 passing yards
and seven scoring strikes in an NCAA playoff victory over
Morehouse.
