Mars Hill’s Randolph Named Super Region II Offensive Player of the Year, SAC Totals 19 All-Region Selections
NEWBERRY, S.C. - Mars Hill's record-breaking running back Jonas Randolph was named the Daktronics Super Region II Offensive Player of the Year, leading a total of 19 players from the SAC on the All-Region Team.
Randolph, who has already been named the SAC Offensive Player of the Year and is a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, set a league record with 2,170 rushing yards this season. The senior averaged 197.27 yards-per-game, and broke the conference's all-time rushing record by finishing with 5,608 yards in his career.
A Daktronics All-Region selection in 2009 and 2010 as well, Randolph had six games of at least 200 rushing yards this season and nine games of over 100 yards.
He is joined by 11 other SAC student-athletes on the First Team, including teammates Tyler Hodgson at offensive lineman and Josh Crumpton at tight end.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which split the SAC title with MHC, also had three first-team selections in safety Michael Green, offensive lineman Chandler Rearden and kicker Colin Corpe.
Rearden, a 2010 All-Region selection and the SAC Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner in each of the past two seasons, was the top vote-getter on the offensive line.
Tusculum garnered four spots on the First Team in wide receiver Rashaad Carter, defensive lineman Terrence Smith and Deonte Gist - a first-team selection at both wide receiver and return specialist.
All three players earned All-SAC distinctions in 2011 as well.
Defensive lineman Zeke Andrews from Carson-Newman and linebacker Apollo Stretch from Newberry rounded out the SAC's representation on the First Team. Both players were also named first team All-Conference.
Wingate placed two on the All-Region Second Team in wide receiver Chris Bowden and offensive lineman Mike Arndt, as did Mars Hill in defensive lineman Kevin Johnson and cornerback Marvin James.
Newberry offensive lineman Chase Gamble, Carson-Newman running back Nate Inman and Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Demetrius Green - the SAC Defensive Player of the Year - were each named to the Second Team as well.
