SAC Names Week Eight Football Award Winners
Lenoir-Rhyne's Jarrod Spears and Joe Anderson and Carson-Newman's Curt Duncan have been named the SAC Football Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne's Jarrod Spears and Joe Anderson and Carson-Newman's Curt Duncan have been named the SAC Football Players of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Spears led Lenoir-Rhyne to a key victory over Mars Hill on Saturday by rushing for 125 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries to earn SAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. His touchdown runs of 47 and 31 yards in the third quarter helped L-R rally from a 21-3 deficit.
Spears leads L-R in rushing this season with 543 yards. The Bears are currently the top-ranked rushing offense in Division II.

Anderson, the SAC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with a game-high 14 tackles for L-R. He also returned a third-quarter interception 26 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bears a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
On the season, Anderson has 46 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
This marks the second time in 2012 Anderson has won the conference's Defensive Player of the Week award.
Duncan had another solid day controlling field position in Carson-Newman's 31-10 win at UNC Pembroke, earning the kicker SAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row and third time this season.
Duncan averaged 64.2 yards on six kickoffs in the game, including three touchbacks. The junior's performance limited UNCP's average starting field position following kickoffs to its own 19 yard line.
He was also a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points.
